Top 6 Favorite Literary Couples

With the Valentine's season upon us, I thought it would be fun to compile some of my favorite literary couples!

Regrettably, I don't have room for all of my favorite couples, so I decided to narrow it down to six pairs, in no particular order of favor.

1: Mr Darcy & Miss Elizabeth Bennet

from "Pride and Prejudice" by Jane Austen

I'm starting off with one of literature's most iconic couples. Lizzy Bennet, with her fine eyes and quick wit, along with Mr. Darcy's unsocial and taciturn disposition are a matched made in literary heaven!

2: Anne Elliot & Captain Wentworth

from "Persuasion" by Jane Austen

The next couple on the list is yet another of Jane Austen's creations. Two young lovers are torn asunder only to meet again years later as strangers. And let's not forget Captain Wentworth's gift with the pen, bestowing upon us one of literature's greatest love letters! 📜✒️

3: Mr. Thorton & Miss Margaret Hale

from "North and South" by Elizabeth Gaskell

North & South... Milton & Helstone... Mr. Thornton & Margaret Hale,
This is a couple that couldn't be more opposed to each other's upbringing, culture and politics! However, as the old adage says, "opposites attract"...

... And, perhaps they're not so different after all. 😉

4: Sir Percy & Lady Marguerite Blakeney

from "The Scarlet Pimpernel" by Baroness Orczy

Sink me! I had to include the magnificent Sir Percy and his fair lady, Marguerite Blakeney. Whether they be fighting political revolutions or sailing away on the Day Dream, their love is sure to last!⛵💕

5: Cyrano de Bergerac & Roxane Robin

from "Cyrano de Bergerac" by Edmond Rostand

Ah, the beautiful Roxane and the daring Cyrano. While their story falls more in the category tragique, having barely begun before it is ended, theirs is a love that will endure through the ages.🌹

6: Tommy & Tuppence Beresford

from "The Secret Adversary" by Agatha Christie

Last but not least, I couldn't forget this crime solving duo. Where would we be without these dear, old beans! 🔎

Are any of these couples your favorites as well? I would love to know what some of your favorite literary couples are down in the comments below!
