The weather has been unusually cool for us this March. It has been inconsistently summer in the light and winter in the shade as Dickens so fittingly put it in the quote above!

However, this has not deterred us in our nature journal progress! We had extra inspiration this month with some new additions to our family . . . fluffy baby chicks. 🐥
The chicks have been much loved on, and charmed us into giving them a tea-time photo shoot! We'll have to share more of those photos another day, but they definitely managed to make an appearance in our journals this month.

Brittany's Sketchbook

So many blooms seemed to explode overnight, it was hard to decide what to choose to paint this month! The purple wisps of wisteria draped amongst the trees are always a favorite of mine. Since they're particularly short-lived, I knew I needed to include a branch of these beauties in this month's spread.

Azaleas filled many neighborhoods with their vibrant hues as well, making our drive into town quite lovely.
And I couldn't neglect the peach blossoms!
I only managed to finish painting one of our little chicks, but I have another page of chicks in progress that I'll share once it's completed. 😊🎨🐥
Bridget's Sketchbook
I couldn't resist dedicating a whole journal spread to the chicks! I tried to capture each of their personalities, and included some notes about their little quirks.
We are already harvesting sweet, juicy strawberries from our garden and need to start making jam. 🍓🍃
I was also pleased to spot my first butterfly of the season, an elegant Black Swallowtail.

The blue jays are playful as ever and have been keeping the mocking birds in check.
And of course it wouldn't be spring without driving by the fields of pink peach trees that are plentiful in our area. Hopefully the cold snap we have been experiencing doesn't affect the peach harvest. 🍑🌸
We are already well into April, with it's abundant beauty and rainy showers, and are drawing inspiration for our journaling. We can't wait to share it with you all next month.

Dear Brittany and Bridget, what absolutely beautiful journal spreads!! The chicks are so cute and it must be so exciting to start that new adventure! I definitely look forward to seeing more of them. I've never seen wisteria or peach trees, but they both sound so delightful and you've captured them perfectly. I'm sure the smell must be heavenly! ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Anne! 💗 It is very exciting to watch the chicks grow – they’re already so much bigger! 😭 We had never seen peach orchards either until we moved to Georgia. Come springtime, going for a drive is like passing a big pink cloud. 😊 🌸
DeleteAnd I’m so glad you’re enjoying the posts! To be honest, I’m usually finishing my pages up a couple of days before the post is supposed to go out! 🙃 I like to keep a list of “things to sketch” that I spot during my walks, then I can go back and draw when I have some more time. 🎨💕
